Dare County Boat Builders Foundation 2009 Charity Tournament

The Dare County Boat Builders Foundation is pleased to announce dates and new information for their 7th annual charity tournament.
First and foremost, there is a significant change in the requirements for participation this year. Formerly "The Boat Builder's Challenge," the tournament has previously been open only to custom built boats in Dare County, NC.
This year and from now on, the tournament - now the "Carolina Custom Shoot Out" - will be open to ANY custom sportfish boat built in the states of North and/or South Carolina.
Captain Omie Tillett Receives Highest Civilian Honor in NC

On Thursday March 5, 2009 the Dare County Boat Builder's Foundation, in partnership with the Roanoke Island Aquarium and the Aquarium Society, hosted a banquet honoring Captain Omie Tillett.
Captain Omie is a 2009 recipient of the Order of the Longleaf Pine, which is awarded by the Governor of North Carolina. The Order of the Longleaf Pine, created in 1965, is the highest and most prestigious honor granted by North Carolina and is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award.
Dare County Boat Builders Foundation donates $5000 to College of the Albemarle

Newly formed Dare County Boat Builders Foundation generously made a gift of $5000 to the College of the Albemarle in support of the school's extensive boat building trade programs.
"Since 2004, contributions from the Dare County Boat Builders' Challenge have provided for equipment, supplies, curriculum development, advertising, and student scholarships for the program," says COA Dare Campus Dean Teresa James.
