Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors and current college students in Dare County that plan to further their education. The Dare County Boat Builders Foundation is pleased to have awarded $89,500 in scholarships to deserving Dare County students in 2020. Congratulations students!


Dare County High School seniors (First Flight, Manteo, and Hatteras); previous scholarship recipients; new applicants (current college students pursuing continuing education or a degree from Dare County).

Applicant Criteria

Applicants must be related to a parent or guardian employed in the marine industry, including but not limited to:

  • Fishing (charter or commercial)
  • Boat building
  • Tackle and rigging supply
  • Marine industry supply

OR the applicant must intend to pursue a degree or program of study in the marine industry, including but not limited to:

  • Naval architecture
  • Boat building and carpentry
  • Marine biology
  • Marine mechanical and electrical
  • Welding and machinery

Applicants will also be considered based on the following:

  • Financial need
  • Academic merit
  • Moral character
  • Leadership qualities
  • Self motivation
  • Recommendations
  • Essay
  • Interview

Dates and Deadlines

Applications will be available on February 15, 2021. They are to be returned to your high school guidance counselors no later than 3:00 p.m on March 18, 2021. College student applicants should postmark applications no later than March 20, 2021. Mailed applications for DCBBF scholarships should be sent to:
